Jurassic melaleuca is from the tropical tree Melaleuca quinquenervia, commonly known as broad-leaved paperbark tree of the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. Melaleuca substrate is finely ground and typically much less coarse than cypress. Melaleuca has natural, antimicrobial properties and holds humidity much longer than cypress. An invasive species to wetlands in southern North America, Jurassic Melaleuca substrate is produced from harvested invasive trees, and is an excellent environmentally friendley substitute for cypress, which is a threatened species in many areas of southern North America.
